Welcome!
Feb 1st 2013
“Long before time, there was a baby fetus who hatched from a rhodium-encrusted egg and descended upon a throne in an exotic land far, far away called… Colorado? Yes, Colorado! He had a flowing cobalt mane, a soft, supple, coat made of the finest lavender baby unicorn leather, and came out of the womb doing the C-Walk. He was, as some would call him, a true mother f****r”—First line of my epic autobiographical tome.
But since that’s not being written until another, say, forty years when I finally grow into an adult (and am able to grow a full beard), I will have to save that for a latter day.
Instead, I have this brand new website–ThinkDavidYi.com–to save these entries as a collection of thoughts and ideas that will hopefully one day fill said autobiography.
Also, I thought having a blog could finally convey who I am to those who so curiously ask me on places like Twitter, on the streets of life, and most importantly, to my parentals who–bless their hearts–worry that their one and only son won’t be going into law. Shout out to you, mom and dad scrolling nervously on this page!
Questions like: “Are you a stylist, or a writer? A blogger? Like, you have your own show on YouTube? What are you?” Will be answered.
Others like: “Do you like gingers? Cat milk? Are you inclined to gravitate towards those who have extra limbs or private parts?” won’t. Okay, never say never!
But either way, I am finally opening up my life so I pray and hope that you, in the public sphere, will be forgiving of my forthcoming ways. Truth be told, dear readers, (CONFESSION TIME!) I am still discovering exactly who I am in a never ending process called 20-something quarter-life crisis angst. What I do know is that I was definitely meant to do something with writing, entertaining, creating–lost in this labyrinth we call New York City.
Follow me, dear new friends, on my journey as I discover this process of “finding oneself” or as I like to call it, burning through one’s savings.
Where I talk a little about fashion, how it relates to the sartorial universe, dissect the business side of things and the impact that specific designs have on the future of the industry, it certainly will not be. Go to Suzy Menkes for that. That broad is tight (and, bee tee dubs, incredibly sweet)!
But in all seriousness it’ll be a running dialogue on the experiences of someone who just wants to do what he loves to do around the people who love doing what they do. Join me as I go to industry events, walk in and out of fashion week, style for a few names you may know, and make a few more friends along my sojourn–Like you!
So welcome to my digital home, kick back, relax, take off them shoes (it’s an Asian household, mind you) open your minds and think. Think. Think.
Think style. Think fashion. Think New York.
